Come experience life on the Missouri Frontier. This is an active and interactive camp for kids who have
finished kindergarten up through age 12. Full of hands on activities designed to immerse the child into the 1860′s, this camp makes history fun and educational. Four days of each week are spent at the Alexander Majors House, and Fridays will be held at the John Wornall House Museum.

Activities include: Sheep Shearing, Candle Dipping, Music and Dance, Blacksmithing, Pioneer Games, Storytelling and much much more.

Four one-week long sessions to choose from:

June 11- 15
July 9-13
July 30- Aug 3
August 6-10

“Rhythms of the Prairie” Art Exhibit Opens

Westport Arts Allience launches a new visual art series to showcase regional artists, beginning with “Rhythms of the Prairie” Paintings by Diana Werts.

The opening reception will be Friday, February 24, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at John Wornall House, 6115 Wornall Road, KCMO.

Join us for wine and hors d’oeuvres and a chance to meet the artist, while guitarist Kelly Werts performs original arrangements of traditional and popular themes. Both individuals bring a constantly evolving sense of discovery to their work.

The exhibit will be open to the public through March

Historical Interpreters George and Dianne Bernheimer return to the Wornall House for another wine and cheese event. This story of the US Sanitary Commission is told through the voices of Mr. George Templeton Strong, attorney and Treasurer of the Commission, and Mrs. Catharine Dix, a founding member of the Women’s Central Association of Relief which supports the work of the Commission. Mr. Strong and Mrs. Dix will illustrate how skepticism of 1861 about the need and usefulness of the “Sanitary” had changed to praise by 1865 for its work during the Civil War.

The evening begins with wine and cheese at 6pm, followed by our interpretors in period attire at 6:30pm.

Date: Saturday March 10

Time: 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Cost: $7 per person

Christmas Candlelight Tours

Join the Wornall Family as they prepare for an 1800’s Christmas. Taste some period goodies, learn a few dance steps, play parlor games and learn all about Victorian holiday traditions.

This is a hands-on, interactive tour appropriate for all ages, and benefits the beautiful John Wornall House Museum

When: December 9 and 10

Time: Tours enter the house every 15 min. starting at 6:30pm

Last tour starts at 8:30 pm.

Cost: $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and kids under 12, under 5 is free.
