    Volunteer
Can you spare just two mornings or afternoons a month? Come help us share the past with the present. The success of The John Wornall House Museum relies on its dedicated volunteer corps. Each year over 2000 volunteer hours are contributed. You too can be a part of this group. There are a variety of positions available as well as flexible hours. Training is provided and volunteers enjoy extra educational opportunities such as guest speakers and field trips. As a volunteer you will be treated with respect and encouraged to reach your full potential. Listed below are a few of the volunteer opportunities available.

    Docents
Docents guide visitors through the restored 1858 Wornall House Museum. They are front line representatives of the site. Docents educate visitors about the cultural heritage of the Kansas City and provide them with an enriching and enjoyable experience. The museum’s staff provides on-site training for all docents.

    Junior Docents
We welcome young volunteers! We love to have children between the ages of 6 – 12 help us by dressing in costume during special events. Once a child turns twelve, they can continue in costume as well as train to become tour guides and give tours. All volunteer hours meet community service hours required by many schools.

    Office Volunteers
If clerical work is your forte, you can assist staff with daily office tasks such as data processing, mailings, filing, and special projects. Although the house dates from 1858, we do have a modern air-conditioned office and computer capabilities.

    Gardeners
If you enjoy gardening in your spare time, come visit our facilities and help out a great organization! This would also make a great corporate volunteering project! Gardeners plant and maintain the Museum’s herb garden. They organize an annual Herb Sale, as well as assist in the biennial Tour of Gardens fund raising event.

    House and Grounds Maintenance
On several occasions throughout the year, volunteers are needed to complete yard cleanup and maintenance as well as small home maintenance projects. This could be done by individuals as well as group volunteers. This is a great team building opportunity for your office or organization. Children are welcome volunteers as well. . All volunteer hours meet community service hours required by many schools.
